Almost There!
I finally made it to Pensacola, Florida. I'm not at school
yet(I check in tomorrow), but I've seen a little bit of the
campus in person. It's kind of freaky looking at something
in real life after seeing it in pictures. It was really
weird walking on the campus and realizing that this is now
going to be your home (Lord willing) for the next nine or
so months. One thing is that pictures made the campus look
really big, but in reality it isn't.
I hope that I will get settled quickly and get into some
sort of groove.....

Play Ball!
Yesterday I got to go Minute Maid Park to watch the Astros
play the Chicago Umps, I mean the Cubs. It was awful. Our
starting pitcher was ejected in the third inning after he
hit a guy with one bad pitch. What rots is the pitcher for
the other team hit three of our batters with bad pitches
before he was ejected. He at least got a warning, our guy
didn't. It really looked like the umps were out to get the
Astros(no pun intended). It brings up something that needs
to be addressed and that is who keeps the umpires in check?
It seems that they can call a game any way they want to,
and if you try conradicting that, you get thrown out. The
game of baseball is at the mercy of the umps. They can make
or break a game(and a team for that matter).
Anyways the final score was Cubs 11 Astros 6.
What I like about going to a game is that there are other
distractions that make the experience fun and enjoyable
regardless of whether or not my team wins. The most notable
one yesterday was that a guy proposed to his girl(well I;m
for that) and we all saw it on the big screen. It was cool,
but I wonder what would have happened if she said no..
The funniest thing about being at a game in person is that
it seems surreal because I've seen it on TV, and when I'm
there I almost can't believe it.
Anyways that's some ramblings about my baseball
experience...I'll be doing it all over again on wednesday
as we play the Phillies, this time I hope we win...

Blazing around Houston
The one thing I hate I finally have completed, and that is clothes shopping. It took a week, but it's finally over. The worst part was looking at every store in Houston for the best deal. Getting a blazer was the worst, not that I could find one, no it was the fact that the first store we went to, I had found the perfect one. Eliminating all the other stores for the best price was the torture. I didn't realize that a jacket could be sooo expensive. One place, I would have needed to take out a mortgage to afford one. One would think they make these things out of gold threads....

Preparations
Well I made it to Houston in one piece. The
flight over here were great. The landing at Honolulu was so smooth that I didn't have to yawn during the decent and when we touched down I hardly felt it. John almost didn't make it on the next flight because of the extra searching that was done on both of us. Because we have one-way tickets, it automatically makes us eligible for the premium search package which includes wanding, patdown, and the possibilty of making us miss our next flight(which might make us eligible for first class on the next flight...hmmmm..but I digress), which almost happened to John. The reason I didn't miss it is because I got on the plane without John(oops, really I didn't mean to).
The nasty thing about flying from Guam to the US Mainland is the fact that you go back a day when you cross the dateline. So the result is that you end up leaving point A and arriving at point B around the same time. For me I left Guam at 6:10am tuesday(we were late taking off) and arrived at Houston at 7 am tuesday. Talk about the longest hour of my life!

to be continued.....
